What I do
I work mainly between Portuguese and English, with Spanish depending on the project. I translate and review for meaning, register, terminology and locale. When the target is Portuguese, I work in European Portuguese; when it is English or Spanish, the same principle applies: the text has to feel written for its actual audience.
What I can help with
Translation mainly between Portuguese and English, with selected Spanish-language projects. I work on scientific material, product copy, general business content and other texts where wording needs to be both accurate and usable for the target audience.
A second pass over existing Portuguese or English for meaning, grammar, terminology, consistency and register, with Spanish review where the project fits. I can also adapt Brazilian Portuguese for Portugal when the audience or product requires it.
Revision of an existing translation when the basic meaning is there but the language still needs work. I look for omissions, shifts in meaning, literal phrasing, awkward syntax and recurring errors, always against the source and the intended audience.
Consistent wording across a document, product or set of recurring concepts. I use terminology resources, translation memories and CAT tools where they help keep decisions traceable.
How I review
Who is reading, what the text is for and where it will appear.
Whether the target text says the same thing as the source, with nothing important lost, added or softened.
Whether the terminology, register and sentence structure sound right in the target language and locale.
Consistency, punctuation, formatting, numbers and the text in its final context.
